How to Ensure Natural Results in a Hair Transplant

By Dr. Edson Machado (CRM 187417) ·

Why do some transplants look artificial?

We have seen patients of other practitioners with that “doll-like” look — hairs all at the same angle, an overly straight hairline, density out of proportion to the area. This happens when the technique ignores the natural anatomy of the hair.

The factors that determine a natural look

Implantation angle: Human hair does not grow perpendicular to the scalp. At the front, it grows at an angle of 30 to 45 degrees. At the crown, it follows a radial pattern. Each area has its own specific angle — and the doctor needs to reproduce this follicle by follicle.

Growth direction: Beyond the angle, the direction of the hair matters. A hair implanted in the wrong direction grows “against the flow” and gives away the result.

Hairline: The hairline is not a straight line. It is irregular, with variations of 1 to 2 mm that reproduce the natural pattern of the hair. A perfectly straight line is immediately recognizable as a transplant.

Density distribution: The highest density should be at the hairline (the most visible area), gradually decreasing toward the crown — exactly as with natural hair.

How to choose the right doctor to ensure natural results

Ask to see result photos of the doctor's own patients — not ones from the internet, but real cases from the clinic. A good transplant should not be detectable by anyone who doesn't know it was done.

That is our mission: results so natural that not even your barber notices.
